What is a dental sealant?
Dental Sealants are used to coat the teeth “sealing” them to prevent food and bacteria from getting into the grooves of the biting surfaces. Sealants are typically used for the biting surface of molars and premolars because they have deep grooves and can be difficult to clean food and bacteria out of causing decay. Because sealants can help prevent decay, they can eliminate the need for more invasive treatments like fillings or crowns.
Sealants are often applied to children and teens as their permanent teeth erupt, but adults who don’t have decay or fillings in their molars will also benefit from receiving sealants.
